FAQ’s about WIN® braces

Are the braces visible? Lingual Braces Central London

The braces are not visible when you are smiling.

What age is it best to have WIN® Braces?

Any age over 18 years is suitable for WIN® braces. Gone are the days when one was ‘too old’ for braces, with these latest advances in orthodontics, you are never too old!

How long does the treatment take?

Each treatment is dependent on the patient as we are all unique and so the duration will vary according to how much tooth movement is required. Our patients getting lingual braces in central London will need to see Dr Amina Abdel- Karim at least once a month throughout the duration of your treatment. You will start to see movement of your teeth very early on in your treatment.

 What does the treatment involve?

Dr Amina Abdel- Karim will take silicone putty impressions of your teeth. These impressions are sent to the WIN® specialist laboratory. At the laboratory, study models are made of your teeth. On these study models, individual gold alloy brackets are made to fit precisely onto each tooth which will be involved in the orthodontic process of moving your teeth. These brackets are sent back to Dr Amina Abdel- Karim who will bond each bracket onto the back of each tooth. A gold alloy archwire is attached to your brackets, and this wire is tightened to move your teeth. You will need to see Dr Amina Abdel- Karim once a month to have the wire tightened.

Will the treatment affect the way I speak?

Yes, you may find that initially the pronunciation of certain letters such as ‘s’ may be affected, but we do find that this does improve with time as you become used to having the braces.

 Does the treatment hurt?

When the braces first go on, they will feel a little uncomfortable. This does improve with time within a day or so. You may experience discomfort every time you attend for your archwire to be tightened.

How much does the treatment cost?

The cost of the treatment varies from case to case, as it depends on how long the treatment will take and how much tooth movement is required. At your consultation appointment, Dr Amina Abdel- Karim will assess your smile and give you an indication on how long the treatment will take and the cost of your treatment.
