Composite Fillings

Tooth-coloured repairs for an aesthetic finish

Fillings are very common dental procedures, used to repair cavities and fix damage to your teeth. We use white fillings for an aesthetic repair, rebuilding teeth and restoring function with composite, a resin material that mimics natural enamel and is colour-matched for a seamless blend. At Covent Garden Dental Spa, we specialise in holistic mercury-free cosmetic fillings for the best results.

What does a composite filling involve?

We numb the affected part of your mouth using local anaesthetic, and carefully remove the decayed part of your tooth before cleaning it thoroughly.

We apply an acidic gel to your tooth, which creates tiny holes to allow the composite material to bond to it and create an effective repair. This gel is then washed away, and your tooth is thoroughly dried.

We carefully choose a shade of composite material that best suits your natural tooth, so the filling is camouflaged. We apply this directly on your tooth in layers, gradually building up the shape. We can mould the composite, so it fits perfectly in your tooth cavity and feels comfortable.

We harden the composite material using a UV light and give it a professional polish, so it looks and feels like a natural part of your tooth.

Frequently asked questions

Do fillings contain metal?

At Covent Garden Dental Spa, we work in a mercury-free environment. Our fillings use composite, a resin material that contains no metal whatsoever. This is far better for aesthetics and very popular with our patients.

Are white fillings better than silver (amalgam) fillings?

Amalgam fillings contain mercury, which is a toxin, whereas composite is a holistic and more natural alternative. Composite fillings offer a natural, aesthetic appearance compared to noticeable mercury fillings. They are also metal-free and provide similar durability.

Will white teeth fillings be visible?

No. White fillings are colour-matched to your teeth, ensuring a seamless and invisible repair. No-one will be able to tell you have a filling!

Should I replace my silver fillings with white ones?

If you would prefer a more aesthetic filling alternative, we can replace your silver fillings with composite. We remove the entire silver filling, clean your tooth and apply the composite to the tooth cavity for a natural looking repair.

Can a damaged white filling be repaired?

Yes, white fillings are easily repairable. Damage can often be fixed by adding more composite material, or in some instances the whole filling may be replaced in one visit.

How do I care for my white fillings?

Simply treat your composite fillings as part of your natural teeth. Brush and floss twice daily, and attend regular dental check-ups. It’s best to avoid biting on hard food with the fillings as this could cause damage.
