Teeth desensitising programme - £165

If you’ve tried to address the causes of sensitive teeth with measures such as having fillings treated, amending your diet, and using a mouth guard to stop teeth grinding, and your teeth are still sensitive, we can help with our teeth desensitising programme.

The programme starts with an assessment of your teeth and gums to ensure they are healthy and not showing any obvious causes of sensitivity. If this is the case, we take digital impressions of your teeth so custom-made trays can be created.

When your trays are ready, we show you how to use them with a desensitising gel. We also give you a specialised toothpaste and some detailed tooth brushing instructions. At this appointment, we also apply a coating of fluoride.

It is then over to you! At home, you need to wear your mouth trays with desensitising gel every day for two weeks. We also ask you to fill out a diet sheet, logging everything you eat and drink over a seven day period.

At the end of your two week treatment, we invite you for a review appointment. We assess how your teeth have responded to treatment and advise you on the next steps, if any are required.

Frequently asked questions

What causes sensitive teeth?

Sensitive teeth occur when the dentin, the layer beneath the enamel, is exposed. This can happen due to receding gums, worn enamel, tooth decay, cracked teeth, or grinding your teeth.

What are the symptoms of sensitive teeth?

If you have sensitive teeth, you might experience sharp, temporary pain when consuming hot, cold, sweet, or acidic foods and drinks. Brushing or flossing can also trigger discomfort.

When should I see a dentist for sensitive teeth?

If your sensitivity is severe, persistent, or accompanied by other symptoms like bleeding gums, it’s essential to see a dentist. We can diagnose the underlying cause and recommend appropriate treatment, such as our teeth desensitising programme.

Can teeth whitening cause sensitivity?

Yes, teeth whitening products can temporarily increase sensitivity in some people. Using desensitising toothpaste before and after whitening can help.

How can I prevent sensitive teeth?

To help prevent sensitive teeth, maintain good oral hygiene, use a soft-bristled toothbrush, avoid aggressive brushing, limit acidic foods and drinks, and see your dentist regularly for check-ups.
